Title
Early medieval zoomorphic mount
Description
English: Early medieval mount; Cast copper alloy mount, possibly a stirrup mount or similar, of probable 11th or 12th century date. The mount is basically sub-triangular in shape with stylised zoomorphic decoration, cast in relief. The narrow end of the mount has been squared off and has two circular rivet holes pierced through it. There is no other indication of the method of fixing. The rivet holes are positioned such that they indicate nostrils and the decoration then curls round to indicate a triangular snout, eyes, an eyebrow ridge and pointed ears at the top of the mount. Length 44.3mm, width 27.8mm, thickness 2.8mm, weight 13.70g
