Description |
English: A Late Saxon strap end of Gabor Thomas' Class A type 1, dating to the period around the 9th century AD. It has a bow-sided profile with mousehead terminal, and has a straight-edged, split attachment end, secured with 2 copper alloy rivets (one now lost). The obverse is decorated with an incised curvilinear zoomorphic pattern in the Trewhiddle style, consisting of intertwined stylised animal motifs. The reverse is blank. The strapend measures 29mm in length and 13mm in widt. It has a maximum thickness (close to the split end) of 1.5mm, and weighs 2.8g. |
