Title
Early medieval strap end
Description
English: A complete Early Medieval copper alloy strap end of Class B Type 2, dating from c. AD 750-1100. The strap end is sub triangular in shape, the split attachment end is at the wider end. The strap end narrows gradually to a rounded point. The terminal point is worn, but originally would have been zoomorphic in design. Moulded decoration depicting a long snout, eye hollows and long ears are just visible. After the ears the strap end narrows slightly to create a neck. There are two rounded moulded features just below the attachment end. At the split attachment end are two circular perforations on both plates, the rivets are now missing. The strap end is slightly curved. It is a black colour, and measures 52.9mm in length, 9.2mm in maximum width, 4.2mm in maximum thickness and weighs 6.75g.

A similar strap end can be seen in Thomas 2003, page 5, number 14
