Title
Early medieval strap end
Description
English: A fragment of an Early Medieval copper alloy strap end with rivets dating to the period AD c. 800 - c. 1100, most similar to Thomas' Class B. Only a fragment of the attachment end survives with two small rivets. The sides are perpendicular to the top edge, which curves out slightly around where the rivets have been inserted, and appear to run parallel to each other. One side is longer than the other so that the broken end connects the two at an angle. The surface is gilded, and surrounds a foliate relief design which appears to spread out from the top left corner, just below the rivet there. Length 14.3mm; Width 16.6mm; Thickness (excluding rivets) 1.1mm, (including rivets) 3.1mm; Weight 0.97g.
