Title
Early medieval strap end
Description
English: Early medieval strap end; cast copper alloy strap end, probably dating from the 9th century. The strap end is very worn and abraded but can be seen to be of the typical 9th century shape – widening from the back edge before tapering to a narrow, rounded end. The strap end is formed of two separate sheets of copper alloy which have now come apart and are only held together by the single rivet which remains at the back end. There is no extant decoration. Length 29.39mm, width 8.07mm, thickness across rivet 3.50mm, thickness across centre c.1.0mm, thickness of sheeting c.0.4mm, weight 0.92g
