Title
Early medieval square headed brooch
Description
English: A fragment of a copper alloy square headed brooch dating to the sixth century AD. The fragment comprises a portion of the head plate which appears to have been deliberately cut following the line of a pattern on the upper surface of the head plate. The head plate is decorated with a row of raised rectangular mouldings flanked by vertical ribs. There is a single circular perforation on the edge of the plate. On the underside of the headplate are two semi-circular lugs surrounded by iron corrosion products. The fragment measures 45mm in length and 27mm in width.
