Title
Early medieval small-long brooch
Description
English: A fragment of an Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) cast copper alloy small-long brooch, dated around AD 500-600. Only the foot and the bow of the brooch survive. The foot of the brooch is broadly diamond-shaped, but the end of the foot has been broken off. The reverse of the foot shows the remaining part of the catch plate, which is rectangular and missing its curl. The bow is curved and triangular in cross-section. The bow has a central, longitudinal ridge which leads into a triangle shape where it is attached to the foot, as well as on the other end of the bow. The bow is undecorated. Overall, the brooch measures 29.35mm in length, 11.38mm in width, 13.84mm in thickness, and 4.06g in weight.
