Title
Early medieval saucer brooch
Description
English: A fragment of a copper alloy early medieval saucer brooch dating from the 5th to the 6th century. The fragment consists of part of the rim, and a part of the centre of the brooch which is flattened. There is a series of incised lines and grooves creating a central motif, it is unclear what this depicts. Surrounding the central motif is a raised circular border, and a circular border of square beading. Surrounding this is another raised circular border. The edge of the brooch is acutely upturned. There is no decoration on the reverse, and there is no hinge or catch. The fragment has a dark green patina. The fragment measures 20.6mm in length, 18.3mm at maximum width, and 2.1mm in thickness. It weighs 2.41g.

The decoration is similar to ones in Macgregor and Bolick, 1993, page 53, and record NMS-CF2CB6 on the database.
