Early medieval pin
Description
English: An incomplete early Anglo Saxon copper alloy pin dating from c.700-900 AD. The pin has a polyhedral shaped head, it is rectangular with the corners cut off, the sides are irregular triangles and lozenge shapes. On the two larger sides there are five irregular punched ring and dots, on the smaller sides there is a single punched ring and dot. Below the head is a worn raised collar. The shaft terminates in a worn break soon after it extends, it is circular in cross section. The pin has a light green patina, inside the recesses of the punched ring and dots is a light orangey brown colour. The pin measures 22.1mm in length, 9.3mm in width, 4.3mm in thickness, and weighs 3.32g.
