Title
Early medieval copper alloy equal arm brooch
Description
English: Middle Anglo-Saxon copper-alloy ansate brooch fragment, 24mm long, 14mm wide and 6mm thick. The object is in fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 3g. The object consists of half of a brooch, with a circular terminal decorated with three incised dot and rings. It has a slightly curved rectangular bow emerging from this, which appears to be undecorated. The reverse contains two copper alloy semi-circular lugs which contain an iron hinge pin. The brooch is similar to a Frankish/Merovingian example in Hattatt's 'Ancient Brooches And Other Artefacts', fig.239, e.g. no. 1322.
