Early medieval buckle (front, profile, reverse)
Description
English: Cast copper-alloy buckle. Mass: 6.1g, length: 21.8mm, width: 17.9mm, thickness: 7.5mm. Later Anglo-Saxon or Anglo-Norman (c.11th-c. 12th century). Sub-oval frame, which has a D-shaped cross section. Zoomorphic head terminals adjoining the incomplete bar. Pin rest on the front, between two sets of two parallel grooves running across the outer edge. Brown/green, with some loss of surface. A waxy substance has been applied to the buckle.
