Title |
Early medieval buckle |
||
Description |
English: A complete copper alloy early medieval buckle dating to the 6th or 7th century.
The buckle frame is D-shaped in plan with the curve of the buckle thickening in the middle and tapering towards the connection to the bar. The maximum thickness of the curve is 4.62 mm and tapers down to 2.31 mm. The curved section of the frame is D-shaped in profile. There are three incised lines which run across the frame at the thickest part of the curve. The bar is thinner, 1.92 mm, than the curve and has a sub-rectangular profile. Marshall suggests that the grouping of three incised lines is typical for the 6th and 7th centuries. |
