Title |
Early medieval buckle |
||
Description |
English: A copper alloy D shaped buckle with a copper alloy riveted sheet plate. The terminals of the buckle are stylised zoomorphic, animal biting bar type. The copper alloy plate is rectangular and is not recessed to accommodate the buckle frame. It has 2 rivets still in place. A third hole near the frame contains the remains of the pin. The buckle dates from the early medieval period, probably the 9th - 11th century. For reference see YORYM-023A40 on the PAS database. This example does not have the attached plate. Also see number 312 in the Meols catalogue. |
