English: An incomplete copper alloy early medieval disc brooch, dating to . The surface of the brooch is decorated an incised interlaced design, it is possibly zoomorphic. in the centre there is an oval perforation, surrounding this are three circular indentations spaced evenly around the disc of the brooch. Around the edge of the disc there is a continual rope border. One edge of the brooch is worn and broken. On the reverse there is the remains of the pin hinge and the catch plate. The hinge is a circular shape, with a notch to hold the now missing pin. The catch plate is rectangular in shape, and is missing the curved edge to hold the pin.
The brooch has a dark green patina, and measures 39.1mm by 36.5mm, 7.8mm in thickness and weighs 11.98g. |
