Title
Early medieval barrel lock
Description
English: An incomplete iron barb-spring (or barrel) padlock. The fragment comprises the flat, circular end plate. A flat, round-ended plate extends at right angles from the end plate; this is the spine of one of the springs. A rectangular-section scar is also visible, probably where another spine has broken away. The fragment has a diameter of 34mm and a maximum thickness of 30mm. Similar examples at Winchester come from contexts of the late 10th to 16th centuries.
