Title
Early medieval : Buckle
Description
English: A cast copper alloy buckle frame of medieval date. The buckle is pentagonal in shape with a narrowed and off set strap bar. Two large bulbous knops are present from opposite corners of the frame and the attachment hole for a third is present, thought the knop itself no longer survives. The frame narrows slightly where it meets the strap bar. Traces of gilding still remains on the front surface of the buckle frame.

The reverse is flat and undecorated and the attachment holes for the knops are clearly visible.
The metal is a mid brownish-green colour and is slightly worn. The buckle is 26.3mm long, 30.2mm wide, 6.9mm thick and weighs 6.4g.

A similar example can be seen on the PAS database: CAM-A21243.
