Title
Early medieval : Buckle
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of early-medieval date. The buckle is a single looped D-shaped with a narrowed and off-set strap bar. The pin and most of the frame are missing with worn breaks. Only one terminal of the frame survives and it extends beyond the strap bar in the form of a rather crude zoomorphic head with two wide and deep indentations representing eyes.

The metal is a dark greenish-brown colour and is heavily pitted. The buckle is 28.6mm long, 24.2mm wide, 5.2mm thick and weighs 3.3g.
This type of buckle dates from the early-medieval period, probably to the late 8th - 10th century.

Similar examples can be seen in YORYM-C22761 and YORYM-FBF378.
