Title |
Early medieval, Anglo-Saxon probable wrist clasp fragment. |
||
Description |
English: A possible fragment of an early Anglo-Saxon wrist or sleeve clasp, which interestingly appears to be made of lead or a copper-alloy with a very high lead content as the metal is silvery grey in colour. The fragment consists of a rectangular bar measuring 16.2mm in length and 6.7mm in width with a complete integral rectangular loop projecting from one side and an incomplete rectangular shaped protrusion projecting from the other, there is an incomplete circular sewing hole to one side of this too. As the fragment is so small it is not certain which of Hines Classes it could fit into however it does seem to be formed of a bar only with sewing lugs and have a shaped rear edge which makes it most likely to be Form B12 (Hines 1993, 46-47) |
