Summary

[edit]
Description
English: object type / vase shape: attic red figure neck-amphora with twisted handles

- description side A: woman / goddess wearing a diadem holding helmet and shield, Athena with aigis and spear looking at her - side B: woman holding twig pouring wine from an oinochoe into a phiale held by a bearded man in mantle with sceptre "king") - production place: Athens - painter: not attributed as far as I know; at first sight the amphora could find a place in the Niobid Painter´s workshop: the decorative ornament is simple, but the figure drawing is delicate, especially on A; also the shape of the vase would fit into this context - period / date: early classical, ca. 460-450 BC - material: pottery (clay) - findspot: Vico Equense (near Piano di Sorrento), via Nicotera, tomb 24 (dated 425-400 BC) - museum / inventory number: Piano di Sorrento, Museo Archeologico George Vallet (Villa Fondi de Sangro)
