Title |
Early Saxon incomplete buckle with integral plate (reverse) |
||
Description |
English: Early Saxon incomplete buckle with integral plate, breaks not recent. Of the frame only the springing of one side survives. The plate, pierced by a pin hole, is triangular, the apex or attachment edge being missing. The front is tinned or silvered but otherwise undecorated. On the reverse a single integral lug projects from the centre behind the pin hole. There was probably a second lug on the same axis at the missing end. Normally three are found on such buckles, although pairs occur on some smaller examples, e.g. MacGregor 1996 no.77.3. 6th – 7th century. |
