Title |
Early Saxon fragment of buckle |
||
Description |
English: Fragment of Early Saxon buckle, tongue or pin only, with trapezoidal tongue shield with curved sides and raised outside edge decorated with S-shaped stamps that probably once bordered an inlaid stone. The absence of the setting reveals a single rivet-hole. The point of the tongue is missing (worn and corroded ancient break). Cf. Marzinzik (2003) Typegroup I.3, closest to the example from Buckland, Dover Grave D (329, plate 7; Evison 1987, 274, fig.3). Late sixth century AD. Compare NLM945. |
