Title
Early Saxon buckle fragment
Description
English: A fragment of an early Saxon decorated and gilded belt plate decorated in Salin's Style I. The plate has lost its top and lower sections, viewed along its long axis, but the Style I limbs of the two chasing quadrupeds can still be made out. the raised rectangular centre is an attempt to imitate a central garnet setting that this group typically displays. The plate has clearly been broken up and reused, perhaps as a necklace pendant. Two circular drilled holes survive on one short edge and adjacent to them the edge of a third.
