Description
English: Fragment of Early Saxon/Middle Saxon hanging bowl escutcheon (30 x 20mm), disc, decoration comprises part of a triskele the surviving arm of which terminates in a trumpet spiral or stylised pelta motif, decayed enamelled field. Diameter 55mm. Cf. very similar decoration on a disc from Little Barningham (HER 40242) and examples from Thornham (HER 1308) and Stoke Golding, Leicestershire, both illustrated in Brenan (1991), 275, no.57 and 265, no.53. 7th century.
