Title |
Early Roman or Romano British copper alloy brooch |
||
Description |
English: Early Roman or Romano British copper alloy brooch. Probably a Colchester derivitave of some sort. It shares similarities with type 17 in Hattatt's 'Ancient And Romano-British Brooches' (fig.20, p.65). It appears devoid of decoration with the exception of some vertical ribbing on the wings. The sprung pin, spring, and axis bar, are absent. The base of the spring's top retaining loop and catchplate are present in part. Probably dates from c45 to c60 AD.
The length is 40mm, the width is 29mm and the weight 11.51g. Brooches on the database sharing some characteristics include KENT-2CBC29, LEIC-A9FF82, PAS-1AE64C, and SF-9D0A41. |
