Title
Early Roman: Incomplete button and loop fastener, Hybrid Class II/III
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy button and loop fastener, of Early Roman dating (c. AD 100 to AD 200).
About 75% of the fastener is present, consisting of the button and an incomplete loop. The fastener is tear-shaped in plan with a hole through the centre and an integral sub-oval loop (incomplete) attached to one end. The fastener has a raised tip at one end, drawn up to a point. A ridge is present where the loop joins onto the button part.

It measures 28.33 mm in length, 19.76 mm wide and 14.53 mm thick. It weighs 7.4 g.

The fastener is a mid green colour, with an even surface patina.

This fastener is a similar to that which is a hybrid version of a Class II and a Class III, they tend to have petal or tear shaped button ends, but with a hole in the centre (Wild, 1970, 138 & Worrell, 2008, 344).

Several similar fasteners have been recorded on the PAS database, including SWYOR-7BB2A4, DUR-33CC58, DUR-0860B5, NCL-5FA3E4, NLM-6A0924 and LVPL-6B55D3.
