Title
Early Post medieval buckle
Description
English: Early post medieval double-looped copper alloy buckle frame, one loop trapezoidal with scalloped inside edge, spiked lobe at both ends of bar, other loop oval with massively expanded outside edge decorated with cast radiating grooves resembling a scallop shell. Iron deposits on bar from pin and/or plate. 29mm x 16mm. An example without decoration and with a pin recess was found in a late 15th-century context in Amsterdam (Baart et al. 1977 no.213). Whitehead 2003 does not give any good parallels. The closest example is dated 1575-1700. This piece is probably 16th century.
