Early Post Medieval book clasp |
||
Description |
English: Early Post Medieval Book clasp with aperture (to close with a counterpart hook). Fish-tail terminal, two rivet holes, one near the terminal in centre of three concentric punched rings, the other within a band of closely spaced longitudinal lines of varying length. Immediately before the eye transverse mouldings are emphasised by two bands of rocker-arm ornament. The aperture is formed by two arms flanking a rectangular cut-out and folded around a separate rod. Aperture parts are rarely found, but hooks, which were sprung and needed frequent replacement, are more common. Length 38mm, width 36mm (at fish-tail), 21.5mm at eye, width of aperture 11mm. 16th century. |
