Title
Early Post Medieval: Incomplete double looped rectangular buckle frame and pin
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy buckle frame and pin, of Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1620 to AD 1680).

Around 95% of the buckle frame is present. The pin is complete. The buckle plate is missing.

The buckle consists of a double looped rectangular frame. Pointed ends with ovoid knops are present at the corners. A notch as a pin rest is present on both outer edges of the frame. Pointed knops are present at either end of the strap bar. The pin has been made from a triangular sheet of copper alloy metal. The wide end has been folded around the strap bar. It tapers to a blunt point. A groove is present at the base.

The buckle measures 33.3 mm in length, 26.9 mm wide and 6.5 mm thick. It weighs 5.4 g.

The buckle frame is a dark brown colour, with an even patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.

A similar buckle frame has been published as no. 524 by Whitehead (1996) on page 84 and is considered to be Early Post Medieval in dating (AD 1620 to AD 1680s).
