Description |
English: An incomplete copper alloy double looped buckle of Early Post Medieval dating (AD 1550 to AD 1650).
Around 75% of the buckle is present, consisting of one complete loop and most of the second. A moulded trefoil knop is present on the outer edge of the complete loop. Moulded triangular knops are present at either end of the strap bar. The outer edges are bevelled. The reverse is flat. It measures 34.9 mm in length, 21.9 mm wide and 3.1 mm thick. It weighs 3.8 g. The buckle is dark green colour with an even surface patina. Find has been treated with olive oil. Similar style oval double looped buckles have been published as #401-5 by Whitehead (1996, p65). These have been dated to AD 1550 to AD 1650. Similar ones have been recorded on the PAS database as OXON-33FC0C and LANCUM-AB6691. |
