Title
Early Post-Medieval thimble
Description
English: An incomplete and rather squashed Early Post-Medieval (1600-1700) silver thimble formed of sheet silver 0.51mm thick. The ends would have originally been soldered to form a continuous circle but the ends are now not joined. The thimble is probably missing its top which would have been made separately and soldered into place and below where the top would have been part of the wall of the thimble has broken away (probably recent damage).

The thimble is decorated with regular square-ish punches. Across these are plain bands of zig-zag strapwork flanked by grooves. Flanking the bottom edge is another plain band decorated with a groove above and below, and along this is a rectangular stamp with the initials IC (when viewed with the open end of the thimble uppermost).

It measures 22.58x19.01x12.65mm and weighs 3.96g.
