Title
Early Neolithic translucent pale brown flint ogival leaf shaped arrowhead
Description
English: Lithic implement from a translucent pale brown tertiary flake. (While it was recorded as an arrowhead Dr Kevin Leahy is cautious about this interpretation).

The majority of working is on the dorsal face, suggesting this arrowhead was for use and not a status symbol. The artefact has been constructed in a rather odd way. The point is actually at the proximal end, while the arrows butt is at the distal end. This has created a problem with how to deal with the comparitevely large bulb of percussion. The rather crude solution has been to snap part of it off, followed by a short abrupt removal, and finished with a thin curved reduction flake on the apex of the ventral side. The has left a small spur near the tip, and given the otherwise 'pear' shaped arrowhead an odd asymetric look in plan. The artefact has short, parallel, abrupt retouch to the remaining mesal edge areas. Looking from the dorsal side, the butt has been formed by snapping to produce the left aspect, which has then been struck to flake off the right aspect. The tip has a degree of wear gloss which suggests that, for all the problems encountered in producing it, the arrow head proved to be highly functional. Dating from c4000 to c3500 BC.
The length is 13mm, width 8.5mm, thickness 1mm, and the weight is 0.19g.
Other records of small leaf arrowheads include DUR-4A1610, WMID-137057, WMID-11DF00, and GLO-221C90.
