Title
Early Neolithic End and Side Scraper
Description
English: A side and end scraper. The scraper has been uni-facially retouched and expediently manufactured. The distal end of the dorsal face exhibits continuous retouch with a semi-abrupt angle and is of long type in extent. The morphology of the distal retouch is of sub-parallel type. This retouch extends discontinuously to both margins but becomes of edge type in extent.

Concoidal ripples are present on the ventral side and the bulb of percussion has been removed.

There is no evidence of breaks, abrasion or heating.

Extensive cortex cover of dorsal face aids in handling comfort when utilising the tool.

The scraper is translucent brown in colour with grey inclusions. It is sub-ovate in plan and plano-convex in section.

There is a quartz inclusion present at the distal end near the right margin.

Mercer (1981) illustrates a similar example on pg 129, Fig 54, No 4 which dates to the Neolithic. Butler (2005) also illustrates a similar example on pg 126 fig 50, 8 which dates to the Early Neolithic.
