English: A copper alloy zoomorphic strap end dating to the Early Medieval period, c. AD 750 - 950.

The object is sub rectangular in shape, with an angled tapering terminal. There are two broadly circular rivets in position at the open attachment end. The reverse is plain and undecorated. On the outward face is an elaborate Trewhiddle style decorative scheme composed of what appear to be two entwined beasts, their heads rounded in shape and almost feline, with an impression of nose and mouth visible on one and worn away on the other, before joining elongated rectilinear necks which appear to cross over one another before arriving at pellet in annulet designs. Above these crossed necks is an almost shield shaped area with four pellets enclosed within it in a cruciform shape. Each of these pellet in annulets is linked to another rectilinear channel, and these cross over one another once again. There are then two horizontal lines before the zoomorphic terminal, which has two dished sides representing the face, and a central nose and possibly ears reaching up to the horizontal lines above.

This is an example of Thomas' Class A, Type 1 dating broadly from the 8th to 9th centuries.
