Title
Early Medieval strap end
Description
English: A cast copper alloy strap end dating from the early medieval period, AD 750 - 950, Thomas Class A. It is very similar to Trewhiddle style strap ends, but the central part of the design is not visible. It has a convex-sided plate, split at the attachment end and a zoomorphic terminal, possibly in the shape of a dog's head. There are two copper alloy rivets at the attachment end; both remain in place. The upper surface is decorated with a line of punched dots around the rim and within this are the remains of further decoration, but this is now indecipherable.

The strap end is 49.7mm long, 17mm wide and 3.4mm thick. It weighs 13.23gm.
