Title
Early Medieval small long brooch
Description
English: A fragment of a early medieval copper alloy small-long brooch dating to the early 5th to 6th century AD. The fragment consists of the the bow and foot of the brooch. The bow is rectangular, and D shaped in cross section, near the worn break there are six transverse grooves running across the bow. Running across the middle of the fragment there are five transverse raised collars, below this the foot of the brooch widens to a triangular shape. On the reverse of the bow the catchplate projects, it is sub triangular in shape with the outer edge curved slightly to hold the now missing pin. The brooch has a dark green patina with patches of orange brown corrosion across the surface. It measures 31.6mm in length, 9.5mm in maximum width, and 3.82g in weight.

A similar brooch can be seen in MacGregor and Bolick 1993, page 137, number 15.49.
