Title
Early Medieval harness link
Description
English: An incomplete Early Medieval copper alloy harness link dating from the 11th century. This is a double-ended link with a central boss. Each end has a loop attachment, these are broken and worn. One consists of one quarter of the loop and a knop on the outside edge. Only a small part of the other loop remains. The central boss has moulded decoration in the form of a feline face, with raised moulded eyes, nose and mouth. The two triangular ears protrude from the top. The reverse of the central boss is concave and hollow. The harness link is a light red brown colour. The link measures 54.2mm in length, 18.0mm in width, and weighs 13.73g.

Similar links can be seen in Williams' 'Anglo-Scandinavian horse harness fittings' datasheet 2007, page 5, figure 6.
