Title
Early Medieval buckle
Description
English: A copper alloy buckle probably dating from the Early Medieval period, most probably from 600 - 750 AD. The buckle has a D-shaped frame with a significantly expanded outer edge. This tapers as it curves round smoothly to the straight bar which is round in section and very slightly recessed. The outer edge is a rounded D shaped in section. There is no decoration and no trace of animal head terminals at the ends of the bar. There is a smooth light green patina on the inside of the loop, but the outer faces have a patchy pale green and red colour. This buckle is similar to examples in Macgregor and Bolick on page 203, but the loop is more rounded than on the published examples. Many Early Medieval buckles are a very squat shape.
