Title |
Early Medieval buckle |
||
Description |
English: A copper-alloy buckle with an integral plate terminating in a zoomorphic head and probably dating from the 9th or 10th century, The zoomorphic head is similar to those on strap-ends of the period. The frame of buckle is rectangular in shape but the outer edge expands into a point making it pentagonal externally. The plate and buckle were cast as a single unit. The copper-alloy pin still remains; it is wire wrapped round the frame though a hole in the plate. The only details visible on the zoomorphic head are the notches for the nose and the eyes. It has a dark green/brown patina. It has a length of 36.83mm, width 15.95mm, thickness 3.01mm, weight 5.24g. It was found in the same field as many other 8th and 9th century objects which are linked to this record. |
