Title |
Early Medieval Weight from Roxby cum Risby |
||
Description |
English: Lead
Weight. Cast conical weight with off-centre aperture of diameter tapering from 4 to 2mm from flat base to apex. The mass falls a little short of the Scandinavian ore of circa 23gms. However, David Haldenby kindly notes that the Viking Age weights which he has recorded do not have apertures (pers. comm., citing items catalogued in Haldenby, D. and Richards, J.D. 2016, Internet Archaeology no. 42). An identification as a fishing weight of broader medieval date should also be considered. Suggested date: Unknown, Early Medieval to Medieval, 850-1000. Diameter: 19.3mm, Height: 15.1mm, Weight: 22.11gms. |
