Early Medieval Viking Sword Pommel
Description
English: A complete cast copper-alloy Large Viking Sword Pommel. The sub-rectangular pommel is pointed-oval in section and has a sub-rectangular perforation for the tang. Both faces have Ringerike-style zoomorphic interlace of two animals with triangular heads and disjointed bodies. The front face has niello inlay and a central animal head with large circular eyes projecting from the base. On the top of the pommel, on either side of the tang hole is a simple cross-hatched interlace decoration. The length is 69.6mm, the width is 25.9mm, the thickness is 23.9mm and the weight is 94.38g.
