Description |
English: Early Saxon copper alloy sword pommel of Holmegard / Kragehul type. A central rectangular block with a rectangular hole for the tangles between two arms that raper gently to rounded terminals. The base is flat. The sides and the tops of the arms and the sides of the block are decorated with rows of flutes or grooves. Those on the upper surface of the arms have mostly been lost through wear. Length 42.5mm. Width 9mm. Height / thickness 5mm. See notes by Helen Geake in descriptions of two examples found in England, Compton Verney, Warwickshire (WMD-916283) and Caistor St Edmund, Norfolk (NMS-C48232). 5th - 6th century.
