Description
English: Lead

Spindle Whorl. Cast cylindrical whorl with a slightly off centre tapered and moulded aperture of diameter 8.5-7.5mm, Walton Rogers form B. Patinated overall. The modest aperture size is that associated with Anglo-Saxon whorls and cylindrical whorls are known in Yorkshire from the 8th century, but the form became more common in the 10th-century, most notably at Anglo-Scandinavian Coppergate, York. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 800-1050.
