Title
Early Medieval Spindle Whorl
Description
English: Lead Spindle Whorl of plano-convex form with a (now) off centre moulded aperture of diameter 8mm, Walton Rogers form A1. Patinated overall. The form may follow that of cattle femur caput whorls, which were current from Anglo-Saxon times but which are most commonly reported from Anglo-Scandinavian contexts, as at Coppergate, York. This small whorl would be apt to spin a yarn. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 700-1000.
