Early Medieval Girdle Hanger
Description
English: Fragment of the shank of an Early Saxon copper alloy girdle hanger, both ends broken and in battered condtion.The breaks are probably old but there is recent scuffing. From both breaks (it is not known which is the upper or lower) the sides diverge. At the widest point there is a large punched ring-and-dot on the front face. Lines of small crescentic stamped impressions can be seen on the rest of the surface. Extant length 36.5mm. Width 7 - 11.7mm. Thickness 2.4 - 2.8mm. Late 5th - mid 6th century.
