Title
Early Medieval Finger Ring
Description
English: Ralph Jackson, curator of Romano-British collections at the British Museum, writes: A gold earring probably of Roman date. The object is circular in plan and is made of plain gold wire of softened rectangular cross-section. The two ends of the hoop have been overlapped and twisted. There is slight damage to the twisted ends: otherwise the object is in good condition.

An example of Allason-Jones Type 3 ear-ring (L. Allason-Jones, Ear-rings in Roman Britain, BAR British Series 201, 1989, esp. Nos. 29-30). See also Crummy, N. (1983) Colchester Archaeological Report 2: The Roman Small Finds from excavations 1971-9, Colchester: Colchester Archaeological Trust Ltd: 50: no. 1795.
