Title
Early Medieval Cruciform Brooch
Description
English: Copper alloy cruciform brooch knob.

Cast half-round terminal knob from an Anglo-Saxon cruciform brooch, with a flat back and a flat, thin and slightly flared lug protruding for attachment to the head of brooch. The end of the knob bears a single moulded line, and the adjacent collar three moulded lines, all worn away from front display face. A small sub-circular hole (Diameter 1.93mm) on the flat back of the knob is filled with lead-coloured matter – either lead or, perhaps, graphite from exploration with a pencil. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 400-720; probably 6th-century.
