Description
English: Incomplete Middle Saxon copper alloy buckle, all of the integral frame missing. The pin is of D-shaped section except at the loop where it is flat. Its tip is drooping. On either side of the pin hole there is an engraved transverse line. The sides are concave towards the scalloped inside edge. Near the latter there is a pair of ovoid apertures and near to the pin hole there is a transverse row of three triangular blind holes, probably cast but which have clearly been emphasised by engraving. On the reverse all four pierced lugs are incomplete. Length more than 19.5mm. Width 15mm. Marzinzik 2003, 52, Type II.26. Late 7th - 8th century. Finder's number A27.
