Early Medieval Buckle
Description
English: D-shaped buckle frame with moulded Ringerike style zoomorphic decoration on the sides and outside edge. The slightly distorted bar, gripped at both ends in the mouth of an animal, is recessed behind the ends of the sides. Another example, in much fresher condition and complete with pin, was excavated in Thetford (Goodall, A.R. in Rogerson and Dallas 1984, fig. 110. no. 24), and another from Meols (Griffiths et al. 2007, 62, pl. 8 no. 307). Dimensions 26.5 x 25mm. Dates to the late 10th - 11th century.
