Early Medieval Buckle
Description
English: Incomplete triangular sheet mount or appliqué from a stave-built bucket. One end (the upper) is straight. Vertical break at possible mid point, the other broken edge oblique and following weak point along repoussé decoration comprising lines of stamped rectangles forming a possible eye within bordering lines. Height >33mm. Width >24mm. Compare the triangular appliqués with anthropomorphic decoration from Fetcham (ford), Surrey and Howletts, Kent (Cook (2004), Figs. 16 a and 17 e). Dates to the late 5th-early 6th century.
