Title |
Early Medieval Buckle |
||
Description |
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy buckle of Early Medieval date (c. AD 450 – c. AD 600). Length 21.8mm, width 31.0 and 4.4mm thick. Weight 8.31g.
The frame is oval in plan. It is convex at the front and slightly concave at the rear. The narrowed bar has a length of about 10.5mm and is severely corroded. Consequently, its original shape in cross-section cannot be accurately defined. The pin is missing. All the surfaces are corroded and pitted. A small area of patina has survived and this is dark green and very shiny. There is no evidence for burning or melting. |
